Alastair's story
Alistair comes from Glasgow, but he works at a hotel in Fife. When he was 18 he had his first child. Now he's 21 and he's got two. He agreed to talk to Verity Watson about his experience and gave her this story.
"When Tracey first told me she was pregnant I felt really numb inside. I was terrified. I was only 18, and Tracey and me were struggling to support ourselves, let alone a baby. The thought of the morning after pill or whatever it's called never even entered our minds, and as far as Tracey was concerned abortion wasn't an option. We just had to accept it and get on with things."
"When Craig was one Tracey became pregnant again. It was the same all over again; we were both drunk and didn't remember to use a condom. We now have Amy, who is 3 months old."
"Tracey had to quit her job when Craig was born, and although I earn quite a lot of money; £6 an hour in the bar and the roofing work pays well, it's not enough for 4 of us. Things are pretty tight most of the time. I don't think kids out there realise how tough it is being a parent, especially at my age."
"Neither of us have much of a social life anymore. Our lives revolve around the weans. I work most of the time, so don't really see the kids. Me and Tracey have no time alone with each other anymore. It pisses me off some times when I know my mates are going out drinking and dancing, and I'm stuck at home with 2 babies. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but I wish I had been more careful. It won't be happening again, Tracey's on the pill now".
"I don't want my kids growing up to be like me. They deserve much better than that, and I'm going to do make sure they don't make the same mistakes I did."
